ASPer OPEN DAY 2022

On 24th June 2022, the Centre of Foundation Studies for Agricultural Science has organized the ASPer Open Day via the Zoom application and posted live through the official Facebook page of Centre of Foundation Studies, UPM. The program lasted for two hours from 3.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. Master of Ceremonies of the event, Mrs. Ardini Zalikha binti Nordin began the event with a welcome speech and called upon Mr. Muhammad Termidzi bin Abd Jamal to recite a prayer.

ASPer Open Day provides an opportunity for SPM 2021 leavers, parents and public to learn more about Foundation of Agricultural Science program offered in UPM. It serves as a platform for the public to obtain more information regarding admission requirements, fees, and detailed description of the program. What is interesting about the Agricultural Science Foundation program is that the ASPer graduates can further their studies in bachelor's level at UPM based on the university admission requirements and the specific requirements of the program at the faculty.

This program consists of few slots that have been presented by ASPer’s management and heads of units. The first slot began with Prof. Dr. Siti Nurul Ain Md. Jamil, Deputy Director I of ASPer who has shared about the entry requirements, ASPer’s background, and study pathway after the foundation program. The program continued with a slot from Deputy Director II of ASPer, Prof. Dr. Mohamad Amran Mohd Salleh who spoke on life on campus and financial aid provided for foundation students, and followed by Chief Assistant Registrar of ASPer, Tuan Hj. Mat Razi Abdullah shared about the infrastructure in ASPer and UPM. Then, all heads of units have presented on the syllabus and activities conducted for each subject offered in foundation program such as Agriculture, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English.

Apart from that, there were few slots prepared for the question-and-answer sessions which allowed the parents or students to ask more questions this foundation program. Among the questions asked were the mode of instruction being used for teaching and learning in ASPer and the necessity of Agriculture subject in ASPer. English is the language used by every instructor in ASPer in parallel with the language of communication at the undergraduate level of UPM. One interesting fact about this Agricultural Science Foundation program is that apart from studying STEM subjects, students also have the opportunity to study Agriculture which is considered as a compulsory subject of the program. Positive responses and feedback have been received from the ASPer’s graduate students in regard to this Agriculture subject and most of ASPer graduates enjoyed studying the subject.

At the end of the program, a video on the ASPer program was shown. This video was prepared by few ASPer graduates who are still studying or have completed their bachelor’s program in UPM. They shared their valuable experiences and answered the most frequent questions that people always ask about Foundation of Agricultural Science program.

Following the success of ASPer Open Day, a feedback form was given to the participants to identify the effectiveness of this program. Based on the survey conducted, most of the participants stated that this event has offered insight to them on the program that they can continue after they have completed their high school education.

The overwhelming responses received from the ASPer Open Day program in the previous year has made this activity a program that can provide exposure future students and public to learn more about the Agricultural Science Foundation program. So, what are you waiting for? Let's enter ASPer!
